Stijn Vermeulen (Deceuninck Europe) reflects on recent developments and innovations

Stijn Vermeulen, CEO Europe at Deceuninck, was recently interviewed by Bauelemente, one of the most important industry magazines in Germany. Vermeulen looks back on his first 1,5 years in this position, and talks about the main challenges and opportunities he and the company are currently facing. American and Canadian markets love ‘European windows’

More than ever, ‘made in Europe’ is a genuine quality label overseas. As the United States and Canada become more interested in sustainability, their demand for energy-efficiency in construction is peaking. The International Energy Saving Code (IECC), which has been adopted by many states and local governments in the US, and the US Department of Energy (DoE) are strengthening their focus on energy-efficient technology in window systems. The insulating performance of windows is an essential element in the overall energy balance and comfort of homes. With that in mind, the American DoE now requires that more attention should be paid to the frame materials used, the choice of glazing and the use of quality spacer moldings. For European manufacturers who hope to connect with the US and Canadian market, this opens a window of new opportunities. Read the full article here den ganzen Artikel. (in Kroatian)

All eyes on the online Sustainable Cities Conference 2021

How green are Polish cities? This was one of the main questions at the Sustainable Cities Conference in Warsaw (Poland) on May 11th. During the free online conference, results were shared of the second edition of the Ranking of Polish Sustainable Cities. This study took a closer look at the sustainability strategies and initiatives of the 50 largest cities in Poland. Polish deputy ministers also presented updates on important national initiatives like the ‘National Urban Policy 2030’, the ‘Clean Air’ and ‘Stop Smog’ programs, and possible green investment options. The main goal of this conference, which was attended by city representatives, architects, town planners and developers, was to promote sustainable development at every level of local governance in the country, as well as giving an insight into where Polish cities find themselves, on their road to sustainable development. Read on about the conference here or visit the official website to register and find out more about the program details.

Belgium pays tribute to Women in Architecture

Belgian architecture organisations have joined forces to create a platform that gives women in architecture a well-deserved place in the spotlight: @WomeninArchitectureBelgium. Every week, an inspiring female architect takes over the account and posts content about herself and her life as an architect. Followers get an insight into her office, her work and her main professional inspirations. The project was launched in March and will run for a total of 52 weeks. It was architect Tine Broos (KRAS Architecten) who came up with the idea, after she had been invited to a similar project in the UK. Read more here and follow the project on Instagram here.
